Sébastien Tellier’s god is blue

Sébastien Tellier's god is blueDo not listen to my record, listen to my message.” Quoi? Pardon monsieur Tellier, I don’t get this yet. My favorite Frenchman (yes, forget Yelle, Justice, Serge Gainsbourg, Daft Punk, et al) just announced his forthcoming album My God is Blue, and there might be no other album that I’m more excited about listening to in 2012 than Sébastien Tellier‘s seventh longplayer.

But I’m wondering: what the heck does he mean by this cryptic line in combination with the album’s spiritual title? And watching the teaser video for the song ‘Pepito Bleu’ didn’t make it easier for me, but see for yourself:

UPDATE, January 17th, 10:50: The full music video for ‘Pepito Bleu’ is out now! Directed by Sanghon Kim & Mathieu Tonetti, the video shows a pretty much ‘Avatar’-like, extraterrestrial world, its explosion and Tellier arriving on earth.

And still: …

… Too strange! While Tellier’s previous album Sexuality from 2008 was something like a musical crotch shot, My God is Blue seems to be a message from some higher dimension. Produced by Ed Banger’s Mr. Flash and the help of Pavle Kovacevic (who previosly joined Tellier for the ‘Divine’ single), the new album might well be a floor-friendly pop record. But on the other hand I’m somehow thinking that Sébastien Tellier might lift his already big ego to another level, making him now flirt with hubris. The press info continues like this: “Enter into vibration with my music. Let’s merge our dreams, together spreading this communal energy in an immense blue wave that will wash over the world – and truth will emerge.

Long story short: If Tellier starts a cult with his new album, count me in. My God is Blue will be released on Record Makers on April 16th 2012.
