Skylax are to release a highly sought after album from Terre Thaemlitz aka DJ Sprinkles. First released in Japan in 2006 on Thaemlitz’ private label Comatose Recordings, Routes Not Roots was recorded under the house producers‘ Kami-Sakunobe House Explosion [K-S.H.E] moniker. The record is much in demand amongst heads, beards, groovers and house music lovers
Featuring 12 tracks that evoke Thaemlitz’ ‘Fagg Jazz’ sound (his words, not ours) the album fuses the classic sounds of New York deep house with thick wedges of bass, a heads down groove and a biting social commentary that "mixes a wide range of social themes such as identity vs. immigrant status, community vs. tranny-on-tranny violence, authenticity vs. cultural decontextualization, openly gay African-American club imagery vs. gay sex on the Down-Low, innocence vs. childhood fantasies of violence and more. From HIV drug trials to tranny and women’s unemployment rates to sexually amorphous Japanese cross-dressers posing as high school girls"
Which could all sound rather preachy / boring / irrelevant to some unless it was delivered by someone we know lives and breathes these issues and then makes some heartbreakingly emotional house music to convey his thoughts. Strong stuff about which we are very excited.
