How 'Akira' Has Influenced Music For The Past 25 Years

More than any other anime, Akira has had a huge impact on popular culture.

Akira has been a cultural landmark pretty much ever since its original theatrical release in 1988. Its cyberpunk style and advanced animation made it a near instant favorite that’s been referenced by countless artists. Now, the film’s iconic soundtrack by Geinoh Yamashirogumi is getting a re-issue, and that’s inclined some to look back and chart the film’s influence. From Kanye West to Bwana, Dazed has a new article that takes stock of some of the more prominent artists who’ve given a nod to this classic of Japanese animation.
