Chill Out To This Calming Collection Of Music Made On A Vibraphone

Vibraphone Masayoshi Fujita

Masayoshi Fujita’s Book Of Life LP comes out on Erased Tapes this week.

The vibraphone—a softer, mellower-toned sister to the xylophone—is an often overlooked instrument. But the Japanese musician Masayoshi Fujita has been using it to create warm ambient sound palettes, the most recent collection of which is coming out on Erased Tapes.

The Book Of Life LP will complete a trilogy that Fujita has been working on since 2012. “There is a story or a scenery behind each song on all three albums, some of them are connected or part of a series,” Masayoshi said. “For me, these songs are similar to playing cards: some of them have the same suit or the same motif, some look minimal and others have more complex drawings.”
