Hear Mumdance And Speedy J Go From Relaxed Ambient To Brutalist Techno In This New Mix

mumdance speedy j

Two of electronic music’s innovators go back-to-back for NTS.

Mumdance has an exceptional ear for electronic music. The UK artist’s sets and original productions regularly combine hard-hitting club sounds with more experimental, abstract elements that come together in an odd, futuristic harmony. In other words, he’s exactly who you’d want to host your radio show.

Over the years, he’s shown his wide range of influences and eclectic taste during residencies on several radio stations, including Rinse FM and, more recently, NTS. For his most recent show—which was recorded live in Rotterdam—he’s joined by Speedy J, whose unique approach to techno has also carved him out a perfect niche within the scene.

The mix opens with a lush collage of textures and a rich sonic pallets, and then moves through incredibly varied arrangements that rarely sit still. Loosely held together by both selectors’ exceptional taste in techno, the mix’s vibe is probably best described by Mumdance, who opens the show saying they’ll play “some ambient…some rollers, some thumpers…all types of good stuff.” Moving from deep, atmospheric techno through dub workouts and electro hybrids, it’s bound to be some of the most mind-bending electronic music you hear today.
