How To Protect Your Ears From The Music You Love

For artists and listeners alike, the effects of tinnitus can be crippling.

What happens when the musicians and DJs who rely so much on the accuracy of their ears, begin to suffer the effects of hearing loss? It’s a cruel irony of a career in DJing or live music that the people most reliant on the proper functioning of their ears are often those most exposed to the scenarios leading permanent hearing loss.

While some researchers are investigating how apps might help cure tinnitus, other methods like protecting oneself from hearing loss with professional moulded earplugs can often be problematic for regular gigging DJs.

In a new piece for Resident Advisor, music journalist Angus Finlayson investigates the stories of the DJs who’ve developed tinnitus. He also reveals a number of ways in which music lovers can protect themselves from the effects of hearing loss caused by loud noises. Give the full thing a read here.
