Leipzig Has Imposed A Curfew On Institut Für Zukunft

The order for the club to close between 5 am and 6 am comes despite the city’s promotion of its nightlife as curfew free.

Celebrated Leipzig club and cultural space, Institut für Zukunft, has been slapped with a curfew that will limit its regular operations effective immediately. The curfew—which forces the club to close for an hour between 5am and 6am—was imposed by the city’s regulatory authorities due to an increased number of noise complaints from local residents.

The curfew comes despite the city of Leipzig declaring itself curfew-free in a tourist brochure aimed to promote the city’s hospitality sector and nightlife. Over the last few years, the Institut has quickly established itself as one of the leading clubs in Germany off the strength of its remarkable locationdaring bookings and DIY ethic. The IfZ’s infamous club nights typically extend well into the following day. Naturally this makes its new early morning curfew awkwardly placed for the normal operation of the club.

In a message posted to the IfZ Facebook, the club has notified followers of their intention to comply with the order for the time being. Watch this space for more details as the emerge. Below you can listen to a mix from Leipzig techno star Kali Avaaz.
