Listen To Peter Hook's Fresh Cover Of A New Order Classic

The legendary Joy Division and New Order bassist winds back the clock with a cover of “Ceremony”.

New Order’s former bass player and founding member, Peter Hook, has returned to where it all began with a fresh cover of the Manchester band’s first single, “Ceremony”. The track was originally conceived as Joy Division track but was halted by the tragic passing of their enigmatic frontman Ian Curtis. In 1981, the band returned to the song in their new guise as New Order and the rest, of course, is history.

Hook’s band Peter Hook and The Light recorded a new cover of “Ceremony” as part of their live performance of the Joy Division and New Order back catalog. Peter Hook replaces guitarist Bernard Sumner on vocal duties for the new version, adding a surprising new feel to the pensive post-punk classic. Check it out here and listen to the two Joy Division demos of the track—plus the original New Order version—below.
