This Mix Of Ambient Music And Police Radio Is Strangely Relaxing
Who knew that the police could help take the edge off of your stressful day?
The website Youarelistening.to follows a simple but bizarre premise: to take thousands of hours of quality ambient music from SoundCloud and to combine them with police scanner audio. The online radio’s founder Eric Eberhardt began generating these sound collages eight years ago, and they now include police audio streams from multiple cities across the United States including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Detroit.
While this may not sound like your ideal chill-out soundtrack, the results are truly relaxing. Eberhardt’s atmospheric pastiches fuse with the muted sounds of police activity and eerie static washes, an effect that lends the audio the feeling of distance and gentle movement.
