Videodrome 90 – This week’s best videos

Here we go! The unstoppable V.I.D.E.O.D.R.O.M.E. turns 90 today. 90. And still the stream of fresh music videos remains unstemmable. This week we dive into the audiovisual depths with videos from Misfit Mod, Kendrick Lamar, Mark Ernestus and many more. Entertainment starts below:

#1 Misfit Mod – Cars, directed by Ed Lust

New Zealand’s Sarah Kelleher has just unwrapped “Cars” from her debut album Islands & Islands—released last week on boutique label Stars and Letters. Enjoy the kaleidoscopic and stiletto-adorned extravaganza above.

#2 Gramme – Laugh Out Loud, dir?

Joe Goddard of Hot Chip fame put it this way: “Gramme are amazing and have influenced Hot Chip a lot over the years, it just sounds great when they play together”. Same goes for this small budget video, which is highly entertaining and relies on nothing but the band performance.

#3 Mark Ernestus meets Ben Zabo – Dana Dubwise, directed by Silvij Skok

A pretty lo-fi and fun video for Mark Ernestus and his collabiration with Ben Zabo for “Dana Dubwise”. This tune will be out on March 23 on Glitterbeat Records.

#4 David Hasert – Deep Horst, directed by Achim Kirsch and Werner Kirsch

Cologne’s own David Hasert, the resident at his very own LIKE party, released his debut album last year. Since then “Cologne’s DJ of the moment” (digitalmyass.com) is fully booked up playing club nights around Europe. Watch the father-son directed video above.

#5 Blackbird Blackbird – It’s A War, directed by Patrick Pearse

Mikey S. Maramag, aka Blackbird Blackbird has unveiled the video for “It’s A War,” taken from his 2012 EP, Boracay Planet. The video was filmed in Australia and stars Australian pro surfer Thom Pringle and model Shenay Carey.

#6 Young Dreams – First Days of Something, directed by Kristoffer Borgli

Music video and/or short film for “First Days of Something” taken from Norwegian collective Young Dreams upcoming album Between Places. Kinda interesting.

#7 Kendrick Lamar ft. Drake – Poetic Justice, dir?

Watch Kendrick Lamar’s deep video to “Poetic Justice” which features Drake. This video definitely gives you another perspective on the track.

#8 Blanche Blanche Blanche – TED Talks, directed by zp/bbb/os

Blanche Blanche Blanche has released a video for their song “TED Talks”, from their upcoming tape Wooden Balls which is due out through NNA Tapes on March 5. Great aesthetic, again.

#9 Diplo – Butter’s theme ft. Gent & Jawns, directed by Reuben Dangoor

Good to see that Diplo isn’t taking himself too seriously. Watch this piss-take video with a serious beat and some M.I.A. meets rave influences. Nice animations on top.

#10 Fat White Family – Cream of the Young, directed by Robert Rubbish and Lou Smith

Bad boy BlackBlackGold aka my dear colleague Daniel Jones sent me this link, which features the freshly released video for London group Fat White Family. Tune.
