Visual Feels: Nikita Kadan’s Procedure Room

Artist Nikita Kadan’s Procedure Room plate series shows the brutal forms of torture performed by police in the artist’s native country, Ukraine. The horrific acts are depicted in the style of Soviet-era medical dictionaries. As Kadan explains, “The didactic character of these drawings addresses the collective responsibility of all those who know and remain silent, bearing the guilt for what goes on ‘in the shadows.’” No jokes in this feel. It’s not a good feel, but it is an important one. You can find more information and photos of the series here.
