Another year, another list and a chance to share what we thought were some of the highlights of 2011. Here editor and community manager Walter W. Wacht picks his impressions from the last 12 months.
In 2011 I …
… came across several artists that accompanied my regular daytime with continuous outstanding mixes and releases: R&S Record’s Klaus, Diynamic Music’s DJ Phono, James Blake‘s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, Kassem Mosse with mixtapes on Ominira and The Trilogy Tapes, Philip ‘Efdemin’ Sollmann and Warp’s Hudson Mohawke, whose R&B edits of Aaliyah and such I enjoyed very much.
… visited a great festival for the second time. Nachtdigital near Sachsen’s Olganitz blew me away again, with an incredibly well curated line-up, nice decoration and the fact that you just need yourself and 2.999 friends to have a great weekend at a lake. Of course, Nachtdigital #15 in 2012 is already sold out.
… a brief but very fitting summary of another nice festival.
… was very proud of my team, 1. FC Union Berlin. The 2. Fußball-Bundesliga team is 7th place in the standings at this year’s first half of the season and doing better every year. Also, they beat Hertha Berlin during the city derby in early 2011. Wir werden alles zerlegen, bis wir Deutscher Meister sind!
… got myself a club scar by accident / alcohol. It was a great Thursday night at Berghain and Golden Gate, though!
… remembered Ernestine and Paul Gabriel, Kurt Schiftan, Köpenicker Straße 183, Berlin-Kreuzberg, deported in 1941, 1943, murdered in Chelmno / Kulmhof, Auschwitz.
… quit a job and started several new ones.
… succeeded with two of my three New Year’s resolutions.
Now let’s see how 2012 goes …
