Does anyone else feel as though electronic dance music is losing its human touch? For whatever reason—cultural nihilism? the advent of strong AI?—the club sounds of today are growing more and more faceless. That’s one of the reasons why we’re so fond of Perel.
Since 2014, the German artist has created a steady body of work that blends the organic with the inorganic in a way reminiscent of the original electronic dance music experimenters of the late-’70s and early-’80s.
In 2018, she released Hermetic, her debut LP on DFA. That release only endeared us to her more (read our feature about her here). Now, we have a new video feature that goes behind the scenes to explore her live show, which incorporates a band-like approach. We met her at her rehearsal space and then went on the road to Sacred Ground Festival.
