Disco FM claims to be a "must-have app for all the crate diggers and vinyl record collectors."

Record digging can be a risky business. Sometimes a blind purchase can become one of the the most treasured records in your collection. But for every rare gem or unknown future classic you find in a bucket bin there are plenty of average purchases that will never make it near your turntable.

Disco FM is a new app for iOS that aims to change that. It’s been designed specifically to provide audio clips in record digging situations, so diggers can preview their potential purchases no matter whether they’re searching online or in a cluttered flea market. By entering the name or catalog number of a record—or, by providing a picture of the record’s barcode—the app will provide a tracklist with audio clips for each track. Disco FM claims that its match rate for records is “around 90 percent.”

The app draws from Discogs’ user-generated database. But whereas Discogs only offers YouTube videos of a track if it has been uploaded by a user, Disco FM also offers audio clips from iTunes. And for just €0.99, the days of bringing a portable turntable with you are surely over. Check out how it works in the video above and grab it from the App Store here.
