Don’t Spend Money On A Buchla—Use It On Your Laptop For Free

Trevor Gavilan has created Cloudlab 200t, a Buchla plug-in that works with Reaktor.

Buchla is a name to get any modular synth fan drooling, but the original machines are prohibitively expensive to say the least. The synthesizer company was founded by Don Buchla in 1963, and features a line of products that generate highly experimental “West coast” sounds that have been used extensively by electronic music pioneers like Suzanne Ciani and Morton Subotnick.

If you can’t wait a lifetime to save up for an original, you’re in luck: software developer and music producer Trevor Gavilan has created Cloudlab 200t, a free plug-in modeled after the classic Buchla 200 and 200e systems. It can be downloaded to function with Native Instruments’ graphical modular software, Reaktor. To grab Cloudlab 200t directly from Trevor’s website, click here.
