Watch This Video About A Workshop That Helps People With Disabilities Make Electronic Music

Inclusivity has become one of club culture’s the most pressing topics. Over the last few years, activist party crews and networks have pushed for both safer and more representative music environments, changing how clubs look and sound in the process.

Ick Mach Welle is one of the brightest new initiatives helping to break down entrenched barriers to true club inclusivity. It’s the brainchild of pioneering Berlin label Killekill and Lebenshilfe Berlin. In the project’s own words, it hopes “to facilitate access to electronic music for people with disabilities. Its aim is to bring some of its participants onto the stage at the conclusion of the project. We demand inclusion—also in the club!”

As Deuster explained to us via a recent podcast, making electronic music accessible to everyone—both for its creative and social impact—is a guiding principle of his work. And as the video detailing the first edition of the project shows, having disabilities doesn’t mean the participants don’t also have a remarkable talent for musical performance or a knack for pushing a synth to its limits.
