Visible Cloaks, the Portland-based neo-ambient group consisting of Spencer Doran and Ryan Carlile, has compiled stunning collections of early ‘80s Japanese synthesizer music for years. Their own music takes cues directly from ambient artists like Brian Eno, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yellow Magic Orchestra’s Haruomi Hosono. The genre experts have compiled a list of 11 essential Japanese tracks that showcase pre ‘00s metallic electronics and dripping, reverb-drenched piano ballads. Check out the entire playlist here.
