Science Confirms: We Are All Helplessly Addicted To Bass

New research indicates that our brains are wired to recognize rhythms in lower tones.

It’s been scientifically proven that music plays an important role in our lives, and particularly in our ability to cope with anxiety and other complex emotions. A recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, or PNAS, has confirmed that bass-ranged instruments are the most significant to the human brain.

“There are superior time perceptions for lower musical pitches,” the article explains. “This is why bass-ranged instruments lay down musical rhythms.” In other words, our brains are programmed to recognize lower sounds, which is why we seek out bass-heavy music.
