va:gn throws house parties in a club setting

The local project stands for the idea that culture is something you build with your own hands.

Nothing at va:gn just exists. It’s all made, rebuilt, argued over, redesigned, carried, painted, wired and retaped. Everything has a story, even the voice-altering phone booth in their chill-out area, which is a relic from their stage design at Feel Festival 2025.

The self-built cultural space in Bonn, Germany, grew out of a creative collective and stands for accessibility, fair practice and safer spaces. Everything at va:gn – from the walls to the stage – has been touched by the people who use it. Over time, that process shaped a real sense of ownership and care that you can feel the moment you enter the ever-evolving space.

It’s neither a brand nor a club franchise but a group of friends with too many ideas. A project that only works because dozens of people put their time and skills into it – from DJs and VJs to carpenters, academics and graphic designers. “Community, for us, means shared responsibility,” says the team behind va:gn. “Not just showing up when it’s fun, but also when there’s work to do.” Whether that means passing out invitations, rebuilding the stage or even mopping the floor after an event. In return, everyone who contributes shapes the space and leaves their mark. They plan together, craft together and dance together. “We like to think of it as a house party vibe in a club setting, as we take our guests’ perspective when planning each event,” they continue to elaborate.

Putting Bonn on the map, va:gn has always been a place for experimentation where local talent can play their first set in front of a crowd, test a new live show and build their own visuals. However, this December, it’s all about “go big or go home.” Together with Telekom Electronic Beats, they invited none other than club princess VTSS for a very special rave. Expect a heavy, high-impact night and a dance floor that feels close and intimate.

To heat things up before, we made va:gn decide all the important stuff with a series of either/or questions…

Pick your answer to see what they went with.

Either/Or?

Arrive early for the vibe
Late for the chaos
Arrive early. That’s when the floor warms up, crews reconnect and the room finds its rhythm.

Either/Or?

Structure
Spontaneity
This project wouldn’t be possible without structure. It enables our spontaneity.

Either/Or?

A place to escape
A place to arrive
A place to arrive. We want people to feel grounded, not running away from something.

Either/Or?

Be remembered for your energy
Be remembered for your presence
We are not built on visibility. We are built on energy.

Either/Or?

Teaching knowledge
Learning by doing
Learning by doing. That’s the core of va:gn – everything here was built by trying, failing and improving, but we’re excited to pass on what we learned through our experiences to current and future collectives.

Either/Or?

The DJ controlling the night
The crowd shaping it
The DJ’s performance is central to our experience. Our line-up is the through line for the night.

Either/Or?

Long-form sets
High-impact rotations
We run high-impact rotations with a tight resident core and changing constellations of local and international guests who join for the project, not the paycheck – and we keep the freedom to do what others won’t.

Either/Or?

Inspiration from the world outside
Inspiration from the world inside
We wouldn’t be where we are today without everything we got from “the outside.”
