New year, new resolutions and of course new rumors surrounding the longest awaited album in R&B history courtesy of the man they call D’Angelo. What would 2011 be if it didn’t add fuel to the fire regarding the new long player from the genre’s greatest hero?
Along with Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Common and Bilal, D’Angelo’s first two albums Brown Sugar and Voodoo defined modern soul music. Ever since, fans across the world have been waiting for D’Angelo’s follow up.
Then last year rumors began to circulate that king of the horns Mark Ronson was producing the album. However to the satisfaction of many, these rumors proved to be untrue although he did make an appearance on the recent Ronson album Mark Ronson and the Business International. Now, we can confirm that Russ Elevado, the man behind Voodoo, Erykah Badu’s Mama’s Gun, The Roots’ Phrenology album and Alicia Keys’ amazing debut Song In A-Minor, has been engineering the mythical third album and according to Elevado it is now apparently near completion.
Posting on his website, Elevado stated: “We are officially making our way to finishing this record! I don’t need to tell everyone that this will be an amazing album.”
No word on a release date as yet, but this is the closest yet that we have come to a finished record. Watch this space for more information. In the meantime, let us remember the greatness of D’Angelo.
