We sat down with one of Berlin's most enduring musical figures.

Few artists can match the avant-garde musical pedigree of Gudrun Gut. A legendary figure in the evolution of Berlin’s electronic music scene since the ’70s, the performer was a founding member of the core new wave bands Malaria! and Mania D, as well as a performing member of the irrepressible Einstürzende Neubauten.

This experimental spirit has carried over to Gudrun Gut’s solo records—from the standout 2007 LP I Put A Record On, to the newly released album Moment. Comprised of motorik synth-pop, incisive spoken word pieces, and anthemic electronic ballads, a Gudrun Gut record is a lesson in the vitality of music written at the margins.

For the release of Moment, we caught up with the performer to discuss the record’s creation, the secrets of the album’s lyrics, and the continuing power of her music in taking listeners to another dimension.
