In 1995 Pet Shop Boys‘ released the complete-at-the-time B-sides compilation Alternative. The singles from the golden age of the pop duo’s career are considered to be classics but often the flip sides were equally good. Today, 16 years later, PSB officially announced their follow-up to Alternative which is called Format. The compilation features 38 newly remastered B-sides and bonus tracks that were originally released between 1996 and 2009 and will be released on a two disc package. Out on February 6, 2012 on Parlophone Records the collection will also feature interviews with Tennant and Lowe in an accompanying booklet by Jon Savage. Currently the Pet Shop Boys’ are working on their 11th studio album, which is due for release in early autumn next year.
So the new Kate Bush album we reported on earlier this year is actually happening, and as the promotion machine grinds into action, the first lady of Alt has released a video for the re-recorded version of ‘Deeper Understanding’. Featuring a daring use of auto-tune the song, which was originally recorded in 1989, is scarily relevant today.
Staring Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane, the video was directed Bush herself and shows the story of man who has an illicit liaison with .. a computer programme.

It only took a few minutes to unleash a barrage of opinion – good and bad – when NPR.org started streaming Panda Bear‘s long awaited new album Tomboy yesterday. After a year-long run of 7" singles, live bootlegs and non-album teasers the third full-length of Noah Lennox finally drops on April 15th via his own imprint Paw Tracks.
After listening to what is widely regarded as one of the most promising contenders for the best record of the year, we can confirm that (for us at least) the Animal Collective member does no disappoint.
Listen to Tomboy over at NPR.org where you will also find a guest mix from Lennox which combines music that influenced his youth with contemporary picks of his collaborators such as Dent May, Zomby or his Animal Collective bandmate Avey Tare.
