Electronic Beats favourites Yello, who are well known for their eccentric and innovative mix of electronic music and manipulated vocals, are back with a book and a new song called ‘Mean Monday. Even though a documentary on Yello, called Electro Pop made in Switzerland, directed by Anka Schmid came out in 2005 there is also a long awaited biography of Dieter Meier and Boris Blank to look forward to. The book, edited by well-known swiss journalist Daniel Ryser, was released this week via Echtzeitverlag. Named simply Yello the book tells many interesting stories about the bands special moments: partying with Ringo Starr, composing with Shirley Bassey and the way of life in the Swiss capital Zürich back in the days. You’ll also find statements from friends and collaborators like Moby, Afrika Bambaataa or Anton Corbijn. Listen to the new track and watch the video, which was directed by Swiss artist Daniel Cherbuin.
Lee Scratch Perry will be performing a ‘live jam’ tomorrow night live and direct from the Exil club in Zurich and you can catch it live here on Electronic Beats. Dub pioneer Perry has been a Swiss native for much of the last two decades, and apparently a weekly dancehall night which is held at the Exil club is his home away from home. What he has in store for tomorrow is anyone’s guess however – the 75 year old is one of reggae music’s last great mavericks
All you have to do to watch the performance – which takes place at 22.00 ( GMT +1 ) on Tuesday 12th July – is log on to Electronic Beats and watch the embedded player which you can find below. The concert is free to access.
Switzerland seems to be having all the fun at the moment. First they announce the Electron festival taking place in Geneva, now they tease us even more with this fantastic boutique festival called m4music taking place in the Swiss cities Schiffbau and Zürich.
The SXSW styled festival will take place in just over a week and will feature names like Belgium electro-poppers Goose, Dubstep wizz’s Darkstar, The Streets, Friendly Fires and finally Everything Everything whose Sunday Girl remix of their tune ‘Photoshop Handsome’ track I feel is one of the best remixes of the year so far.
Check it out below:
Other artists included on the bill are Joker, Manchester’s fantastic apocalyptic rockers Wu Lyf and many more.
One of the coolest things about the three-day festival is that they are putting on a demo-tape clinic, where you can submit your demo in any genre and be assessed by the best. Other things taking place at the festival include conferences & discussions.
If we were you I’d head over to Switzerland quick smart before it’s completely sold out.
As always festivals like put out their own cinematic trailers, so here is m4music’s:
