Stunning new video this afternoon for the Seuil featuring dOP track ‘Don’t Trust’. Evoking memories of a more innocent time, yet with a dark theme running throughout, the Berlin based crystalmafia can chalk yet another video on their win list. It should go without saying that we also love the music, taken from Seuil’s recent Fluctuat Nec Mergitur E.P on Circus Company.
Check out the video below.

The intoxicating life of a touring musician is over and it’s back to school for Nicolas Jaar . Since the release of his debut album Space is Only Noise in early 2011, the New York based, Chilean born musician has been on the road pretty much all the time. The 21 year old producer was studying comparative literature at Brown University, Rhode Island until he became one of the most talked about artists of this and the past year, largley thanks to his Wolf + Lamb connection. Therefore he’ll be swapping samplers for university books for now and not playing any live shows until 2012.
As a parting gift Jaar is currently giving away his latest single, titled ‘Don’t Break My Love‘ (which you can listen to and download from the player embedded below). And there’s another little treat: alongside Azari & III (mind their Electronic Beats recommended tour with When Saints Go Machine), Nico put together a ‘Six Mix’ for BBC Radio 6 last sunday. The show is up for stream for another five days, and it’s definetly worth the listen: Jaar collected music that inspired him when growing up, followed by his current favourites – such as Animal Collective, Lil Wayne, Missy Elliott and Cat Power (which is an obvious pick since he was spinning her Rolling Stones cover version, the same one that Nikita Quasim used for her sweet Clown & Sunset mix).
Furthermore, Jaar started a new project, titled Darkside, where he’s collaborating with his band member and guitarist Dave Harrington, they’ll be releasing a self-titled three track EP on Clown & Sunset on December 5th which you can pre-listen here.
Last but not least (and as mentioned below): the first Nicolas Jaar shows in 2012 are already popping up – see below.
Nicolas Jaar Band live:
January 15th NL-Amsterdam – Melkweg
January 17th DE-Hamburg – Ego
January 19th, 2012 DE-Munich – Rote Sonne
January 20th, 2012 FR-Brest La Carène (Salle des Musiques Actuelles)
January 22nd FR-Paris – Le Trianon
January 26nd IT-Rome – Goa Club
“Why keep on following a strict line”, asks Circus Company co-owner Mathias Duchemin, “when you can do some slalom and put yourself in danger and also surprise your listeners – I think it’s way more interesting.”
For the latest issue of our DVD series, Electronic Beats Slices met up with the French label manager to talk about the history and recent success of Circus Company – the Paris based label that brought us singles and albums by Nôze, MyMy, Homewreckers, Nicolas Jaar, Carsten Klemann and dOP.
Watch the new label feature here on EB.net and learn how Mathias aka Sety, Nicolas Sfintescu (half Nôze) and friends tick, how important the artwork is and what their future plans are.
You can also watch a whole bunch of Slices DVD features on EBnet – we’ll be adding a new episode every Monday. Or have a look at our webshop, where you can order single DVDs of or subscribe to Slices Magazine for postage and packing price only.
The latest edition of Slices is just about to hit the shelves – June 14th to be precise and it is absolutely jam packed with features, interview and videos.
Come and join us on our latest video exploration as we travel to France to meet with French techno legend Laurent Garnier as he presents the latest evolution of his DJ set up with his L.S.B live set which we captured live in action at Paris’ Rex Club.
Continuing with the Gallic theme this issue’s label feature is with Circus Company, who continue to make strides with their idiosyncratic house music including one of the year’s most hyped debut album – Space is Only Noise by American Wunderkid Nicholas Jaar.
Elsewhere we check UNKLE’s stunning live show and get up close and personal with the British duo in Prague. We also have an in depth interview with Danish electronic pop sensations When Saints Go Machine, who we are very excited to have playing at our next Electronic Beats Festival in Prague.
For the geeks out there (you know who you are) our tech talk feature is with Frank Müller a.k.a. Beroshima and finally we present bite sized features with Schneider TM, Ekkohaus, and Nina Kraviz – who has a new album coming on Rekids.
Finally you can enjoy music videos from Wiley, Siriusmo, Detroit Grand Pubahs and 6th Borough Project.
The new edition of Slices will hit streets on June 15th, and it is with great pleasure that we can announce Laurent Garnier as our cover star. In our in-depth feature we interview the French producer at his old homebase, the Rex Club in Paris, where he recently performed with his live project L.B.S.
The show features a DJ set by Laurent as well as a live performance together with Scan X and Benjamin Rippert – an impressive document of an ecstatic Sunday evening.
In the interview we experience Laurent in a reflective mood. See the feature on Slices 2-11, which you can pre-order in the EB-shop.
Elsewhere we have features with UNKLE, Schneider TM, When Saints Go Machine, Isan and Nina Kraviz, tech talk with Beroshima, and label feature on French imprint Circus Company.
