Janine Rostron aka Planningtorock is about to transform. In anticipation for the release of her new album W, due this Friday via DFA, the experimental electro-chanteuse presents a new aesthetic that will culminate in her brand new live show. She will be on stage with her new program for the first time in Cologne for the Electronic Beats Festival this Thursday, May 19th. Don’t miss it! Other acts include Animal Collective, Modeselektor, Ada, Nouvelle Vague and Holy Ghost!
Earlier this month Janine Rostron offered a video for her new track ‘The Breaks’ – watch the clip here. You can grab the free mp3 below or over at DFA’s soundcloud. Also DFA just put up W in its entirety for streaming – use the player below, and check out our review of W!
With mystery and hype growing over Planningtorock, the singer/powerful live performer has announced she will release her debut album W on the New York Based label DFA this May.
The first video and single for her album is "Doorway" and it’s a really great slice of art-house pop music, kind of similar to Antony & the Johnsons or even Xiu Xiu. The most overt influence which you can hear in different shades is Arthur Russell. Rostron takes this a step further by penning a tribute on the LP to Russell with his song "Janine".
The LP is described as, "epic in scale…deeply personal, strikingly alien…weirdly familiar, and always daring and original.", an album that will surely turn many heads.
W was recorded over three-and-a-half years in solitude in Berlin and took in different guests from Scandinavia including Icelandic musician Hjörleifur Jónsson and Swedish mixer Christoph Berg.
Just two days after the album release, on May 19th, Planningtorock will be playing our Electronic Beats Festival in Cologne alongside Animal Collective, get all the details here.
