Automatic Orchestra is a sound installation programmed by people and performed by machines. It involves 12 PROTOSEQ units, which are derivative pods inspired by the CFO Bodyseq, and acts as an allegory for information circulation. According to an official description, “A common set of rules distributed among a network of MIDI devices opens up a melodic space orchestrated by automatic logic and the artist’s vision. The perpetual interaction among the devices and the interpretation of encoded musical messages blurs the distinctiveness between structured composition and performative improvisation.”
The installation premiered at Resonate festival in Serbia as a collaboration between University of the Arts Bremen (HfK) and Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design.
