German Artists Open Museum Of Trance In Haiti
German artists Henrike Naumann and Bastian Hagedorn want to “discuss the representation of Haitian culture in German museums by exoticizing German rave culture and memorializing it as ‘the other’ in the middle of Haiti.” The two artists aim to flip the ethnographic paradigm by appropriating nostalgic content and re-interpreting it with Haitian artists and musicians. Naumann and Hagedorn’s research on the history of trance in Germany has included collecting images, clothing, music equipment and other objects. The Museum Of Trance, which is more like an exhibition, will remain open until December 20, 2015 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti as part of the Ghetto Biennale.
