This 40-Minute Version Of Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" Is Amazing
This is the best version of “Autobahn” we’ve ever heard.
If you need to take a break today, then might we suggest you take it with Kraftwerk? This live performance of the robotic outfit’s “Autobahn” demonstrates what a musical force the group was back in the day. Recorded the same year that Autobahn first hit the shelves, it’s a 40-minute masterpiece from a show in the German city of Leverkusen that fuses the group’s latter-era techno-futurism with its earlier free-jazz psychedelic freakiness. Florian Schneider and Ralf Hütter—both classically trained musicians—absolutely kill it here, extending the famous breakdown into something that goes way beyond the one we all know and love. This is real Krautrock right here. Listen to it below.
