Hot Mass Successfully Crowdfunded A New Sound System

Pittsburgh’s best basement party Hot Mass has been in need of a new sound system to, among other valid reasons, avoid “weird faces from DJs during sound check.” The weekly party, which takes place under a bath house, is teaming up with audiophile sound company Baltimore Sound Works to assemble a rig that puts Pittsburgh back on the dance music map. In just six days, the campaign managed to raise an impressive $10,000.

We love all manner of crowd-sourced endeavors, but are platforms like Indiegogo and Kickstarter becoming go-to sources for easy money for clubs and promoters (who also generate profit through entrance fees and drink sales) and producers alike? Tell us what you think of this phenomenon.
