New Festival Highlights Female Electronic Music Pioneers
Next weekend the Deep Minimalism festival will kick off at London’s Southbank Centre with three days of live workshops and live performances of seminal early electronic compositions. The lineup includes the first-ever rendition of “Still Point” by Daphne Oram of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, a John Cage composition, a deep listening session with Pauline Oliveros, a piano piece from Mica Levi of Micachu and the Shapes and various other works from the likes of Eliane Radigue, Meredith Monk and Laurie Spiegel.
You can find a lot of the women involved in this festival included in this mix of 35 female electronic music legends. And if you’re down to go one deeper on this kind of music, check out our guide to radical classical music.
