We all love a good resurrection (public holidays, obscure reissues, etc.) and that goes for musical instruments as well. Das Filter TV has a fascinating new feature on the Subharchord, one of the first electronic musical instruments developed in the German Democratic Republic. The production of the instrument was discontinued for various complex reasons, but as you can hear above, it has an insanely arresting and idiosyncratic sound, and an even richer history. You can thank the immense archival work of musical historian Manfred Miersch for tracking down an existing Subharchord and generously offering up its potential for a new generation of musicians.
