Many operating rooms today are equipped with sound systems, but a new report from The Independent warns surgeons that playing drum & bass while operating “hampers communication with nurses and may put patients at greater risk.” In a recent study, the National Journal of Nurses analyzed footage from UK operating rooms in which music was played, and found that dance music (typically played at high volume) “made staff repeat themselves, hindered communication, caused frustration and potentially risked patient safety.” Read more here.
