These Forgotten TR-808 Classics Will Blow Your Mind

Roland’s iconic drum machine has been featured in way more tracks than we thought.

Last week saw the release of 808, a comprehensive new documentary about Roland’s TR-808 drum machine. To celebrate the release of the film, its producers—who happen to include Arthur Baker of “Planet Rock” fame—compiled a list of the best and most obscure tracks to feature the groove box. Case in point is Aphex Twin’s “Xtal”, one of the most memorable ambient techno records of all time, which actually features a hacked 808. Give it a spin below. Give the full list a read here.
