This vintage documentary is essential viewing for any moderate to severe Nick Cave fan. Presumably named after the equally-essential science fiction novel, Stranger In A Strange Land was produced by Bram van Splunteren in 1987; just a few years before the Berlin Wall fell, and first aired on Dutch TV channel VPRO.

Narration is in Dutch, but a cast of characters—including Blixa Bargeld, Mick Harvey and Cave himself—are interviewed in English. Notable scenes include Cave giving a tour of his living quarters (gesturing toward “my collection of German Gothic paintings, my gun and my desk”) and rehearsing with the Bad Seeds. Watch the chain-smoking glory in full above.
