What is sound? What is a synthesizer? What is musical sound and how is it different from electronically-generated noise? Sometimes it’s easier to complicate things than to get the basics straight. Electronic music was never easier to understand than it is in this “3-2-1 Contact” recording from the ’80s, which features Suzanne Ciani, the electronic music trailblazer who reflected on her Buchla days with trance techno producer Donato Dozzy in our conversation series. She explains the core principles of music with eloquence and demonstrates the functions of a synthesizer in such way that you couldn’t miss the point even if you tried.
