Until Batbold Bavuu opened shop earlier this year, Mongolians reportedly had to travel more than 1,000km (600 miles) across the Gobi desert to Beijing. Bavuu began collecting as a college student, rescuing unwanted records from the trash, and became an avid sampler. He currently stocks “an eclectic mix that includes Cuban tracks, Yemeni Jewish music, hip hop, Edith Piaf, pop groups from Belarus and rare state-sponsored Mongolian rock bands.” Read the full story here.
