Until now, there have been no real possibilities for drafting sounds like a graphic designer sketches visuals. Sound design has always revolved around knob-fiddling and painful trial-and-error processes. But what if you could use your voice to generate the sound of an engine starting? Or even better, that kickdrum sound you’ve been dreaming up, but had no clue how to coax out of your machines? According to a new article on Gizmodo, researchers are trying to change that by developing a suite of sketching tools for sound design. This could be the new sync button: soon everyone will be able to make beats, regardless of their technical knowledge.
