Erased Tapes has uploaded new video from an off-the-cuff evening improv session between pianist Nils Frahm and Icelandic minimalist composer Ólafur Arnalds. The two artists reportedly met up at Frahm’s Durton Studio in Berlin on July 28, and invited cameraman Alexander Schneider along to document the process. “Instead of ending the session after the first take,” the pair explain, “we continued to improvise throughout the night, ending up with several new pieces written and recorded in eight hours with no overdubs and no edits.” The resulting “Trance Friendz” includes shots of the collaborators chatting between takes and can be watched in full here.
Arnalds will play EB’s upcoming festival in Budapest on October 17 as Kiasmos alongside Nina Kraviz, Âme, Omar Souleyman, and more; full details here.
