Welcome To GeoCities Heaven
The ancient URLs of old places of worship like Angelfire and GeoCities could be lost in the mists of time if it wasn’t for sites like Cameron’s World. Functioning as a love letter to the early days of the Internet, when we were simpler people happy to spend two days downloading a single album, the eponymous Cameron has created a feed-collage of various archived GeoCities pages, allowing a glimpse back into some of the basic templates of personal pages—from sPoOkY laughing-skull.gifs and MIDI files to band tribute pages, it’s charming, nostalgic and sweetly sad:
“In an age where we interact primarily with branded and marketed web content, Cameron’s World is a tribute to the lost days of unrefined self-expression on the Internet. This project recalls the visual aesthetics from an era when it was expected that personal spaces would always be under construction.”
