Sci-fi fans hungry for a more complex view of searchable knowledge databases, your time has come.
If you’re craving futuristic visuals with your learning, Wikiverse is the website for you. Inspired by Chrome’s WikiGalaxy experiment, French computer scientist Owen Cornec created this beautiful tool to turn up to 250,000 Wikipedia articles into an explorable 3D-rendered galactic chart. By clicking each star, the Wikipedia article appears in the same format within the browser interface, with nearby stars forming related topics. It may not be the most simple for finding information quickly, but never has looking up the various flavor combinations of Doritos been so intriguing (unless you’re as concerned as us as to why they don’t make the pizza ones anymore, in which case—I know right, what the hell?)
For more productive browser-based fun, here’s a bunch of great tools you can make music with instead of doing office work.
