Some guy transformed his old HP Scanjet into a righteous keytar. And he posted how you can do it too!

Scanners kind of bit the dust a while back, huh? Never fear, because now you can dust off (get it?) those wonderful slices of antiquated technology and make a musical instrument every bit as passé—the keytar. A rather industrious person figured out a way to make a keytar from an old HP Scanjet, an Arduino, a MIDI interface and keyboard plus a stepper motor driver. Don’t ask us how it works, because we really don’t know. But you can watch a video above that explains all the beautiful technical details.

We are waiting with bated breath for the first ever, scanner-played Duran Duran covers.

Watch some guy make crazy beats with coils and wood here. And learn how magnets can be used to make trippy loops here.
