SHAPE Prepares For Experimental Festival Season with 2 Gigs
Autumn is the busiest season for experimental music fans, as there’s an onslaught of festivals and events between September and November, including Unsound in Krakow, Skaņu Mežs in Riga and Budapest’s UH. Clearly, the members of SHAPE, a program affiliated with the avant-garde festival network ICAS, will be very busy in the coming months, and they’ve planned two events to warm them up before game time.
The first one will take place on August 8, when SHAPE’s Icelandic cellist Hildur Gudnadottir will open for drone gods Sunn O))) at Berlin’s Heimathafen. After that she’s heading to Ljubljana, Slovenia for a one-off edition of the Sonica Classic series, which presents artists who work between the fields of electronic and contemporary classical music, on August 29. In addition to the events with Gudnadottir, CTM has planned a night at the Berghain Kantine devoted to the label Where To Now? on August 13. Opal Tapes alumnus and SHAPE affiliate Ketev is scheduled to play alongside the likes of Moon Wheel and Jesse Osborne-Lanthier.
