St. Germain Visits Mali for New LP

You may only be familiar with St. Germain via his sleek, 2000-era hit “Rose Rouge” off his album Tourist, which claimed Victoires de la Musique (the French version of Grammy awards) for Best Jazz Album and Best Electronic Album.  Shortly after, however, he dropped off the map. Turns out he was conducting fieldwork on the Malian blues popularized by Ali Farka Touré. On his new album, which was reportedly six years in the making,  he couples his own electronic loops with traditional Malian instrumentation (balafon, kora) and electric guitar from Guimba Kouyate. Find out more and stream the album in full ahead of its October 6 release over at NPR.
