How Virtual Reality Can Amplify Your Musical Perception

Virtual reality devices are the next big thing in gear and technology. With Facebook acquiring Oculus Rift and Google launching an oculus “thrift” version made out of cardboard, there’s no doubt that soon we’ll all be indulging in computer-generated entertainment. Tech Crunch has compiled some more or less intuitive ways the advent of VR will change our musical experience.

One spectacular usage, they suggest, would be the ability to experience a concert from the perception of the star performer. A dream come true… unless you’d rather be next to your favorite producer, peeking at whatever they do on those sampler modules? Accessible music education—surpassing all those YouTube tutorials—is also a possibility.

This year’s CTM Festival is also playing with virtual reality in the form of a Japanese pop star; more on that here.
