It's True: Research Shows Music Really Does Heal

Science says that music is the answer.

While Western medicine values pills, syrups and surgeries and disparages so-called “holistic” treatments, two associates at the science-oriented American university MIT have concluded that the healing power of music is more than an abstract concept.

Marko Ahtisaari and Ketki Karanam conducted studies at MIT’s Media Lab that observed the behavior of post-operation patients who self-administered opiates and discovered that music was able to replace some of morphine’s pain-reducing, feel-good effects. With this in mind, they started working with ambient band Marconi Union to look into creating artificial intelligence-generated music that individually tailors sounds to specific patient needs. The mind boggles!
