This Hive-Shaped Touch Synth Has 60 Polyphonic Voices

Hyve’s unique touch interface translates nuanced movements into sound.

Hyve is a 60-voice polyphonic synthesizer that generates and evolves sound as you move your fingers across its white and gold touch panels. The incredibly sensitive interface translates the slightest changes in touch into nuanced sound, and can even elicit vibrato-like effects unique to traditional stringed instruments. According to Hyve’s creator, Skot Wiedemann, the instrument’s unique interface is designed to “explore the interaction between human touch and sound.” The tablet-sized machine is now available to purchase on his Kickstarter page as a fully-assembled instrument or as a DIY kit sold in discrete parts.
