Moog Discontinued Its New Minimoog Synth After Only 13 Months
From new to vintage in just over a year.
After a mere 13 months, Moog has announced it’s ending production of the Minimoog Model D synthesizer reissue. The highly anticipated, very limited reissue of the iconic ’70s synthesizer was announced last year at Moogfest 2016, with orders quickly outpacing the expectations of the company. This has led to a much higher than anticipated consumption of the parts-inventory, originally expected to last for a number of years. So if you want to get your hands on the synth that changed it all, you better move quick; limited editions are available from the Moog website for US $3,749.
However, if that figure gives you heart palpitations and lightheadedness, perhaps Behringer’s new—and slightly controversial—Model D clone is more in line with your budget. Yesterday it was revealed the clone would retail US $100 cheaper than first expected. The Eurorack compatible MIDI-enabled synth is available to pre-order in the US for $299, and the first units should arrive in September.
