Watch This Artist Make Beautiful Music From Japanese Junk

Ei Wada’s inventions breath musical life back into forgotten objects.

Japanese instrument maker Ei Wada brings the concept of “found sound” to a whole other level. His orchestra of electronic waste and obsolete junk items includes opened and pitched reel-to-reels, magnetized ventilation fan guitars, and percussive TV sets. Self-described as working “somewhere between contemporary art and music,” Wada’s creations remind us that there is a whole world of sound at our fingertips, if we only choose to listen.

In the newest episode of the toco toco documentary series exploring Japanese musicians and creators, Ei opens up about his process and goals behind his unique approach to music making. You can watch it below. Scroll down further to watch Wada perform on his drum (TV) set.
