The techno pioneer stunned Coachella with the debut of CLOSE – Spontaneity & Synchronicity.
Over a Coachella weekend that featured the the glitz of Radiohead, Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar, it was actually techno heavyweight Richie Hawtin who stole the show. He used the festival as a way to premiere his new audiovisual spectacle, CLOSE – Spontaneity & Synchronicity. It brought together DJing, live performance and real-time image manipulation into one memorable experience. A big part of it involved a network of cameras that gave dancers a 360-degree view into the technique at the heart of the minimal master’s fame. Hawtin will revisit the project again at a homecoming of sorts: Movement Festival in Detroit. In the meantime, you can watch a video and stream the full audio from the Coachella performance below.
