Watch A Video Of A Telepathically Controlled Instrument

The encephalophone is perfect for those who are truly too lazy to get off the couch.

Researchers at the University of Washington have developed the encephalophone, a hat-like device fitted with electrodes that connects to a computer synthesizer set up. The user’s brain patterns give rise to an array of electronic string and piano sounds. Like any instrument, however, it takes a good deal of practice to make the encephalophone’s music sound good.

The instrument was originally developed for its implications in neurological therapy. University researchers suspect that patients who have suffered from strokes and ALS —and particularly those with limited physical mobility—could benefit from using the instrument through music-based rehabilitation.
